Charm decay physics

The opportunities for performing charm physics studies at a high luminosity collider at a center-of-mass energy around 10 GeV are enormous especially when photons or 's are involved. Just below meson threshold, events account for 40%of the total cross section. Thus an integrated luminosity of 10 fb will yield charmed particles. On the which decays to mesons, most of the 's decay to charmed particles increasing the yield further. This plus the excellent efficiency and resolution of the CsI calorimeter allows CLEO II and, therefore, CLEO III, to compete successfully with Fermilab fixed target experiments in situations where photon detection is important.
