Aperture

The aperture required to avoid particles hitting the vacuum chamber in the interaction region increases as the quads are moved farther from the interaction point. Previously the aperture requirements were most difficult to meet in the vertical plane. The displacement of the horizontal closed orbit resulting from the crossing angle makes the horizontal aperture a critical consideration. The orbits must minimize the horizontal as well as the vertical aperture requirements of the beam.
