Philmont Autumn Adventure 2002 |
This is my award from the Patriots' Path Council's 2002 Autumn Adventure
crew. We spent a week in the southern portion of the ranch (Hidden
Valley/Tooth Ridge/Beaubien/Rayado Creek), hiking a total of 55 miles. The
crew of ten included four repeaters from our 2000 Autumn Adventure crew and
three with no prior Philmont experience. A journal of our trek can be read
at
http://www.lns.cornell.edu/~seb/philmont-02914-1.html.

Philmont Trek: 2000 |
Red-Rimmed Arrowhead - This was the "Millenium" Arrowhead that was given
to all Crews who completed a trek in 2000. Troop 111 sent three Crews
"independently" that year; I was with Crew III, which tackled a unique
version of Trek 30. A diary of our trek can be found at:
Expedition 629-B3
(includes links to 200 photos).

Philmont 35th Anniversary Patch (Originally Philturn Rocky Mountain Scout Camp) |
35th Anniversary Patch - This was the 35th Anniversary Patch available
for purchase for Crews that completed a trek in 1973 (however, I believe
it was also available for purchase at the Philmont Trading Post for
several years afterwards). The 35th Anniversary referred to the
original donation of the major portion of Philmont to the BSA by Waite
Phillips. I attended as a provisional Scout with the Keystone Area
Council in 1973; our chartered jet was also shared by the York-Adams
Area Council and Lancaster-Lebanon Area Council contingents. There were
no specialized Arrowheads for the 35th Anniversary.

Philmont Trek: 50th Anniversary |
50th Anniversary Arrowhead - This was the specialized Arrowhead given to
all Crews that completed a trek in either 1988 or 1989. It is the only
"activity" award patch I wear on my uniform. The odd two-year run of
these Arrowheads was stated to be based on the fact that 1988 was the
50th Anniversary of the donation of the Ranch to the BSA, and 1989 was
the 50th Anniversary of the first Crews going into the backcountry. I
attended in 1989 as a (solo) Advisor with four Troop 111 Scouts as part
of one of the National Capital Area Council provisional bus contingents.
Although I wrote a diary for our trek, it is not (yet) posted on the web.

50th Anniversary Patch - This was the 50th Anniversary Patch available
for purchase for Crews that completed a trek either in 1988 or 1989
(however, it was available for purchase at the Philmont Trading Post for
at least 10 years afterwards). See the 50th Anniversary Arrowhead for
additional details. The Ranch sold a wide variety of 50th Anniversary
memorabilia (mugs, bolo ties, etc.) for many years.
