My Favorite Bible Quotes

I am really not much for memorizing any verses from the Bible. My feeling is that the context IS important and that, given numerous translations between many languages throughout the centuries, one should not get hung up on particular wordings.

Occasionally, however, I come across a phrase that just beautifully captures a profound truth and speaks volumes in a few choice words. I present a few here for your reflection, and hopefully, inspiration.

These renderings were either taken from the New American Bible for Catholics (NAB) or The Word in One Year (NIV).

"How can men be wise? The only way to begin is by reverence for God. For growth in wisdom comes from obeying His laws. Praise His name forever."
					- PSALM 111:10
"Jesus said to them,'You are truly my disciples if you live as I tell you to, and you shall know the truth and the truth will set you free.'"
					- JOHN 8:31-32
"Choose to love the Lord your God and to obey Him and to cling to Him, for He is your light and the length of your days."
					- DEUTERONOMY 30:20

"A beautiful woman lacking discretion and modesty is like a fine gold ring in a pig's snout."
					- PROVERBS 11:22

"...whatever is true, whatever is honourable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is gracious, if there is any excellency, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things."
					- PHILIPPIANS 4:8
